    FSSAI Registration in India – Licence for Food Business Operators

    FSSAI is a one-time license that you need to obtain from the government (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) if you are running any food business in India.     Three Main Types of FSSAI License/Registration :

    • Validity: Typically up to 5 years (renewable).

    2. FSSAI State License

    • Includes restaurants, mid-scale manufacturers, storage/transport businesses etc.

    • Form Used: Form B.

    • Fee Range: ~₹2,000 – ₹5,000 per year (varies by category).

    • Validity: Up to 5 years, renewal before expiry required.

    3. FSSAI Central License

    • Intended for large food businesses or those with operations beyond one state.
    • Mandatory for importers/exporters, big manufacturers, food chains, ecommerce food sellers, central agencies.

    • Form Used: Form B.

    • Fee: Typically ~₹7,500 per year.

    • Validity: Up to 5 years, renewable.

    Yes.

    Every Food Business Operator (FBO) involved in manufacturing, processing, storage, distribution, or sale of food must obtain FSSAI Registration or License under the FSS Act, 2006.

    If annual turnover is up to ₹12 lakh, Basic Registration is required.

    Minimum: 1 year

    Maximum: 5 years

    Renewal must be filed 30 days before expiry

    Operating with an expired license may lead to:

    • Monetary penalty

    • Cancellation of license

    • Legal action under FSS Act

    Late renewal attracts penalty of ₹100 per day.

    Penalty can extend up to ₹5 lakh, along with business closure.

    Separate license/registration is required for each premise. However, Head Office may require an additional license.

    Basic Registration: 7–10 working days

    State/Central License: 30–60 days (subject to inspection & approval)
